The CSU provides health care in 4 villages which serve as rural health centres. Each centre has a full time nurse who may see over a hundred patients during the week. Once a week a CSU team from Khammam visits each of the centres. The team consists of a doctor with a comprehensive supply of medicines and someone to issue the medical supplies. The doctor will also regularly visit the old people’s home and the children’s hostels. The CSU organise and run free surgical camps each year when volunteer teams of surgeons come from U.K. and U.S.A.
The CSU provides help for those with HIV/AIDS in the form of monthly supplies of nutritious food supplements. These are needed because although the Indian Government provides free anti-retroviral drugs for all patients with HIV/AIDS who register, sadly for many sufferers the effects of the drugs are limited by their very poor diet.
